Visita sospesa

Visita sospesa - Milan Medical center

Doctors at Milan Medical Center have always offered their services for free to those in need, even if sometimes they had to face the hard reality of a business-centric world.
Would you like to contribute with a small sum that will add up to grant a “visita sospesa”?

Visita sospesa: what is it?

In 2020, during the COVID-19 outbreak, solidarity is spreading across communities faster than the virus. Knowing that the public system is currently struggling to provide regular care for those with chronic illnesses or needing medical investigations, many friends, patients, providers and casual acquaintances have asked us whether they could contribute to creating a fund to pay for those in need of medical care who would otherwise be unable to access private practice.
We have thought about what we could do to connect needs and resources, and a wonderful tradition came to our mind: why not create a “visita sospesa”?

For those who don’t know it, this is the story of a tradition that began in the working-class cafés of Naples, a story of simple, beautiful acts of human solidarity. A “caffè sospeso” (pronounced [kafˈfɛ ssoˈspeːso, -eːzo]; Italian for "suspended coffee") or pending coffee is a cup of coffee paid for in advance as an anonymous act of charity. When you order a sospeso, you will pay the price of two coffees but receive and consume only one. Another person enquiring later whether there was a sospeso available would then be served a coffee for free.
